Families in poverty can go from crisis to crisis and never see the light of hope. There are systemic causes to poverty that we, as followers of Jesus, must expose. He loves the poor and has called us to fight injustice. As we do this, we must love our neighbors, one person at a time. Jesus loves individuals, and that’s what we are called to do – LOVE! But HOW? During Covid19, many families have struggled to put food on the table, and food distribution has been an important part of how churches and nonprofits have been able to show the love of Jesus. There is a place in ministry for giving out food and clothing, but only providing food will not help families get out of poverty. Because lack of education is a major cause of poverty, our outreach projects at 2Feet Out Ministries have a strong educational focus. We also believe that every person has gifts and abilities that can be assets in community development and part of the solution to changing their own neighborhoods. We want to help facilitate this self-discovery and change.

After School
ProgramsWe have two programs that meet at Costa Tarragona Apartments after school. The first is a Bible Club that meets on Tuesdays. The kids hear Bible stories and do a craft. The second program is a Reading Club that meets every other Thursday. The leader reads some fun books to the kids and then they do what is called “Readers’ Theater”. The kids read fun scripts while dressing up and acting the part. At the end, they check out books to bring back the next time they meet.

Mobile Library
One goal we have had from the beginning is to start a mobile library that will bring children’s books into impoverished areas of Corpus Christi. There are 2 groups we are focusing on – we want moms to be able check out books to read to their children ages 0-5 to help get them ready for Kindergarten. Please see our information about this HERE. We also want to have educational games and toys they can check out as well. The second group we want this mobile library to benefit are children ages 5-12. We will travel to apartment complexes and low income neighborhoods where children can enter the mobile library to hear books being read aloud, make some crafts and check out books.

Working With
Teen MomsTeen moms are at a very high risk of continuing the cycle of poverty. We are working with Young Lives Corpus Christi to provide educational and fun mini-conferences that will encourage these young moms to finish high school and get more training, take parenting classes, and learn how to budget. These are all tools to share Christ and build relationships with these young and beautiful moms.
