Volunteer Stories

Volunteering at the Read and Feed blessed me as
much as it did the children and their families.
Watching the kids become excited about reading a
story all by themselves or having such interest
listening to a book read to a group was priceless.Melisa H.

I enjoy meeting the kids and building a
relationship with them.

Mobile Library
Our mobile library will begin making weekly
visits to recreation centers, neighborhoods,
and apartment complexes sometime in the
early part of 2026. Not only will they be able
to check out books, but we will offer art and
reading activities for children, as well as.
parenting classes. We need volunteer
“librarians” to lead or help with checking out
books and leading the art activities.
We also need drivers with a CDL license
who can commit to one weekday afternoon
or Saturday for 2-3 hours. -
Mentoring
We need mentors who are willing to commit to
at least one school year of walking alongside a
family to encourage them as they work
through the Family Literacy Program
requirements. This will look different for each
family – depending on what is best for them
and the mentor. There will be required training
to equip you so you will be confident in your
role.

Tutoring
Tutoring: We need tutors to work
individually with kids who are struggling in
reading. We provide the materials (we use real
books and chrome books) and will be available
to answer any questions. We offer tutoring on
Tuesdays and may add Wednesdays.
Read and Feed Summer Program: This is
one of our main events and usually takes place
in June. We need tutors who can commit to 4
or 5 consecutive day or evenings. We are
making some changes for 2026, so please
check back for more information.
